With the growing season almost over, now is a good time to be thinking about what could be added to your garden for some spring colour.

Spring flowering bulbs are a great addition, that should be planted in the autumn for a great splash of colour come springtime.

They can fill in any gaps in borders, be planted in pots/containers, or even naturalised into a lawn.

Be sure to do some planning as different bulbs flower at different times of year, from early flowering species like snowdrops, crocus and winter aconite, through to the late flowering bluebells, grape hyacinth and allium.

As a general rule, bulbs should be planted to a depth that is 3 times the diameter of the bulb. This can be done using a bulb planter or a trowel.
